Significance of the survey
We would like to ask you to invest a few minutes in the future of research and teaching in Switzerland by filling in the questionnaire. In Switzerland there is little data concerning the intermediary university staff. But such data is necessary for the Swiss university environment to be able to develop in the right direction.
The survey
The questions are aimed at anyone who is currently doing a doctorate or a PhD at a Swiss university or Federal Insitute of Technology or who belongs to the intermediary university staff at the same institutions.
Who belongs to the intermediary university staff?
In the definition used here, the intermediary university staff consists of everybody employed as scientific staff for research or teaching with the exception of professors (ordinarii and extraordinarii) and assistants who have not yet graduated. Neither the technical and administrative staff belong to the intermediary university staff, nor the librarians.
Purpose
The surveys purpose is to allow insight into the situation of members of the intermediary university staff and the doctoral candidates in Switzerland. On the one hand their working environment is of interest, on the other their situation regarding training and their academic career. Your participation is optional. However, it is important that you take part, as every answer improves the reliability of the results. It is also in the interest of the intermediary staff, to which you yourself belong.
Confidentiality
We guarantee complete confidentiality of your personal information. The data you enter is sent over the internet with an encrypted connection (https). In particular, your employer/university has no access whatsoever to your answers. The analysis and publication of the data will be done in such a manner as to ensure that the identification of individual persons is not possible.
Mandate
The survey is being carried out by Actionuni, the Swiss association of researchers and of intermediary staff associations and is commissioned by the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER). For more information click here.
The results
The survey results will be published. If you wish to be informed about the publication, please enter your emailaddress on the last page of the questionnaire.
Notes on filling in the questionnaire
"university"
Throughout the questionnaire the term "university" is used to refer to the cantonal universities (Basel, Berne, Freiburg, Geneva, Italian Switzerland, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchatel, St. Gallen, Zurich) as well as the two Federal Institutes of Technology (Lausanne and Zurich), unless further specified. The term never includes the Universities for Applied Sciences (FH/HES) or the Pedagogical Universities (PH/HEP).
Length of the questionnaire
It will take you between 15 and 20 minutes to answer the questions. The exact duration depends on your particular situation. The questionnaire has been programmed so that you will only be asked questions that regard you. We have tried to keep the questionnaire as short as possible.
How to fill in the questionnaire
The questionnaire is divided into several pages. Sometimes you will have to scroll down to be able to read all the questions. If you prefer not to answer a question, use the answer category „n.a.“(=no answer).
Navigation bar
The navigation bar at the bottom of the page indicates how many questions you have already answered. If you want to return to a question (e.g. to modify your answer), you can click on the respective link in the navigation bar .
